I think, especially when you are first starting off, the thrift store is an invaluable resource for a lot of your base garb.

I agree! thrift stores rule, they're fun, and there's so much stuff that fits reasonably well!

I have a favorite short sleeve leather coat that used to be a long sleeved, lined coat from Goodwill that I altered to fit my kit. Repurposing stuff, imo, is always better than buying new from retail.
